Among the fire, a skeletal sheep lies still, the Passover sacrifice, the lamb whose blood was the only shield against what was descending.

Iron chains draped across the wings are not decorative. They carry a message: this slaughter had a cause — centuries of slavery and subjugation under Pharaoh’s power. The serpent coiled around the skeleton’s ribcage recalls the confrontation in Pharaoh’s court, when both Moses and the court sorcerers turned their staffs into snakes before the king.

Around the Metallica logo, blue lightning crackles, a signature that places this firmly in the world of Ride the Lightning, the album from which “Creeping Death” was born.
